3DS2 Authentication Failures Observed - Android SDK
Updates
Following recent changes implemented by previously mentioned issuing banks, we identified elevated decline rates for 3D Secure 2 authentication on Android devices.
In response, we acted swiftly to release a fix on Android devices.
To mitigate the impact and restore optimal functionality, we recommend updating to the latest version of the judokit-android SDK or the React Native SDK.

Further to our previous message, our initial observations and testing have identified the root cause of the 3D Secure 2 authentication failures. The issue is related to a certificate exchange problem and, at present, appears to affect only Android devices transacting with the following Issuing Banks:
- Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c.
- Bank of Ireland (uk) plc
- Barclays Bank UK plc trading as Tesco Bank
- Capital One (Europe) plc
- Clydesdale Bank plc.
- HSBC UK Bank plc
- National Westminster Bank plc
- Nationwide Building Society
- Santander UK plc
- The CO-Operative Bank plc
- The Royal Bank of Scotland plc
- TSB Bank plc
We are now actively preparing an emergency release of the affected SDKs to resolve this. We will provide another update as soon as the release is available. We appreciate your continued patience as we work to resolve this issue.
The investigation has revealed that the higher rate of failed authentication attempts is predominantly impacting transactions made via Android mobile SDKs. We are working with the technology partners on a resolution to mitigate the impact on this specific mobile platform.
Customers attempting to make payments through Android apps may continue to experience a higher than usual number of authentication failures.
Currently, we are observing that some card issuers are experiencing ongoing issues with processing 3D Secure 2 authentication. This is resulting in a higher rate of failed authentication attempts with Visa/Mastercard cards.
The affected issuing banks include:
- Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c.
- Bank of Ireland (uk) plc
- Barclays Bank UK plc trading as Tesco Bank
- Capital One (Europe) plc
- Clydesdale Bank plc.
- HSBC UK Bank plc
- National Westminster Bank plc
- Nationwide Building Society
- Santander UK plc
- The CO-Operative Bank plc
- The Royal Bank of Scotland plc
- TSB Bank plc
This is actively being worked on by the issuers’ 3DS Authentication & Technology partners to mitigate the service impact from these incidents.
